Tue, 13 November 2007 Sorry folks, but due to the LSU Salutes! ceremony on the PG this weekend (and the awesome cannon fire that it entailed) there was no Geaux Show last weekend. However, I do have something for you that is better than any geaux show (And yes, Lee Greenwood was on the field singing with the band in the second clip, his first return appearance since that memorable game after 9/11) Category: Shows -- posted at: 9:37 PM Comments[0]

Fri, 19 October 2007 In what I hope becomes a regular new segment, Geaux Show fan Chicago Phil sent us this account of his trip to the UK game. "On Saturday my wife and I were witnesses to Kentucky's victory over LSU. As we stood in our seats for most of the game there in Commonwealth Stadium I did not think for one second that the Tigers were going to lose that game. Even on 4th and 2 in the 3rd overtime I didn't think that we would lose. Not until I saw the refs running off the field did I think that we would lose the game. Three days later and I'm still in shock and it's hard to believe. It was a very sloppy game on LSU's part and the Wildcats played their hearts out. The mistakes were far to many to counts or to overcome. One in particular will turn my stomach whenever I think about it for the rest of my life. In the 2nd Overtime period the offenses were driving toward the endzone that we were sitting in. When Terrance Toliver was called for illegal player down field I saw it before it happened. I saw that he was covered up by the other receiver on the end before the ball was snapped. And I immediately looked to the ref to see him drop the flag when Toliver started his route down field. I was sickened b/c he had caught the ball and was down inside the 5 yard line but I knew it would be called back. Eventually the Tigers had to settle for a tying field goal to force the 3rd overtime. In my humble opinion, that was the most costly mental error of a game filled with mental errors. I am still proud to be a Die-Hard Tiger fan and happy to see that we are still in contention for the National Title. Let's handle our business and play like we are capable each week and we will be in New Orleans for the Title game. Forever LSU!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!! Look, I'm all for giving back and helping raise funds for those still in need around our great state, but these things are atrocious! I mean the patch is ok and the white helmets look decent, but whats with that half-assed "maybe-maybe-not" stripe on the shoulder. It looks like someone used a template of our purple jersey and forgot to completely erase the stripes. And white pants? Ugh. There is a reason the saints stopped wearing the all-whites. Why didn't we just go all out and wear the gold jerseys? What's worse, Nike is only donating a dollar for every jersey sold. It's almost as bad as those two-tones they talked florida into wearing last? year. more pics (not for the faint of heart) here Category: LSU Football -- posted at: 3:23 PM Comments[2]

The scoreboard read LSU 45 MSU 0. At face value, it appeared to be a typical LSU vs. MSU type score. For the third time since 2001, LSU shut out MSU. The difference was this time, LSU did so in less than spectacular fashion. It took about a half for the LSU offense to get into rythym, but once they did, it wall over but the crying for Moo U. Defensively, LSU didn't appear to skip a beat from last season, forcing seven turnovers, which the offense converted into 38 points. Craig Steltz led the defensive attack for the Tigers, intecepting three Michael Henig passes. Up front, Glenn Dorsey led the charge, proving that he will be a force to be reckoned with all season long. LSU was able to get consistent pressure all night rushing only the front four on the defensive line, which allowed the secondary to blanket State's receivers all night long. The obvious conern is definitely the play of the offensive line. Matt Flynn did not have much time to throw, and rarely was LSU in any kind of rythym on offense. However, it seemed that when LSU wanted to, it could move the ball at will, as evidenced by the opening possession of the second half. All in all, it was a very tuned down version of the LSU offense. Now for the spin. I don't know about other LSU fans, but I tend to always look for a silver lining in every game LSU plays, win or lose. On Thursday night, I truly believe that MSU could not have played any better defensively than what they did in the first half against LSU. They played inspired football on the defensive side of the ball for a half, and much of the third quarter. Secondly, as I stated before, the LSU offensive gameplan was very basic Thursday night. And lastly, it was the opening game of the season on the road against an SEC opponent, all be it against MSU. I've seen LSU play better in opening games, and I have seen them play worse. And moreover, no matter how it happened, we beat a conference opponent on the road very easily. So now there are plenty of people making assumptions and/or predictions about this LSU team and whether or not the Tigers will be in the BCS picure at the end of the season. Had our defense struggled at times last night as well, I would say there could be a reason to be skeptical. However, this defense is lights out and will continue to be throughout the season. They will continue to put this offense in excellent situations, and this offense will also gel as the season progresses. All this being said, there is still plenty of room for improvement heading into week 2 against the Hokies of Virginia Tech. I like having the two extra days to prep for the Hokies, and I like the fact that kickoff is at 8:15. The stadium will be electric on Saturday with plenty of storylines to feed the fire. Tue, 24 July 2007 From LSUSports.net:LSU running back Alley Broussard has decided to leave the Tiger football team, he announced on Tuesday. Broussard, a senior from Lafayette, said he will remain in school at LSU, where he is scheduled to graduate in December. “My heart was no longer in it, Broussard said. “I’m scheduled to graduate in December so I want to use the fall semester to dedicate my time towards getting my degree. “I enjoyed my four years as part of the LSU football team and I wish my teammates success in 2007. LSU coach Les Miles thanked Broussard for his service to the Tiger football team. “We understand Alley’s decision and we’ll support him as he continues to pursue his college degree. We wish him success in his future endeavors and thank him for the time that he spent with our program. In four years with the Tigers, Broussard played in 35 games, starting eight times. He finished his career with 1,537 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. Broussard, who missed all of the 2005 season with a knee injury, returned to action last year, rushing for 281 yards and four touchdowns on 74 carries. Mon, 23 July 2007 ![]() by: Carey Montz Okay, so let me get all of you up to speed in case your tivo no longer works. Bud Selig apparantly refuses to be anywhere near the vacinity of Barry Bonds when he breaks Hank Aaron's home run record. An NBA official, Tim Donaghy, is under an FBI investigation for allegedly betting on basketball games, some of which he may have refereed. And lastly, Michael Vick has been federally indicted on charges for illegal dog fighting that had been taking place at his property in Virginia. Now, the case of Bud Selig pales in comparison to that of Tim Donaghy and Michael Vick, but is still worthy of discussion. Before we go any further, allow me to state for the record, that I am NOT a Barry Bonds fan - steroids or no steroids. However, there lies a bit of hypocricy on the part of Bud Selig should he choose not to attend any games where it might be possible that Bonds breaks the record. Also, let it be noted that at this time, Selig has no plans to attend any of the Giants next seven games, all of which are at home. Which means one of two things: Either he hates San Francisco, or he hates Barry Bonds. Now, back to the hypocrisy. As much as Selig would like the American public to believe he was ambivalent to the use of steroids in the 1990's, he fails to drive his point home. The facts are this: Baseball was in a downward spiral after the strike. Soon after, home runs were being hit like nobody's business. And since Congress intervened a little over two years ago pretty much forcing baseball to institute some type of steroid policy, home runs have fallen off each of the past two seasons. Did Bud Selig and the rest of Major League Baseball turn a blind eye towards what was going on? I think it is fair to say so, which is where Selig's hyprocrisy lies. Do yourself a favor Bud. Attend the Giants games....please. We already know you are incompetent. But please prove to us that you are not a complete jackass. We know Hank Aaron is your good friend. And since he will not be attending, I guess you won't either. Hey Bud, you are not eight years old anymore. You are the commissioner of baseball....sort of. Worst case scenario is you attend the games for the good of baseball. Then, should information come out that Bonds' head is swollen from steroids and not from his tremendous ego, tell us you attended for the good of baseball. We'll understand. Scouts honor. Weblos!!! Salute!!!! This next segment should be fun. I get to justifiably bang on the NBA. This story is too good not to talk about. Point shaving, fixed games, the mafia....all compelling stuff. I have this image in my head of Paulie Walnuts and Chrissy meeting with Tim Donaghy on the docks somewhere in Jersey talking about what games would be best to fix. I guess I am not taking this story to seriously because any true die hard sports fan knows that the opposing team always has the referee in their back pocket. Surely, I kid about that, but it's true in a sense. The refereeing in an NBA game has been a joke for a long time. Case in point: LeBron rarely got to the foul line in the Eastern Conference Finals while in Detroit. When the games switched to Cleveland, he shot about 400 free throws. But to be a little serious on this subject. The NBA has to hold their collective breath and hope that this is an isolated incident. They have to hope that Donaghy got way into deep with a bookie and was then forced to do something to save face before he was swimming with the fishies with Big Pussy. What we don't know yet is if this is only the tip of the iceberg? Are there others involved? Who knows? If there are others involved, Donaghy would be faced with an even tougher decision. Would he turn his back on his profession, or would he turn his back on the mob? Lastly, let's take a look at the Micael Vick situation. I bet Marcus Vick feels pretty good about himself right about now. Michael Vick being indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of illegal dog fighthing caps off a very bad run by the overrated QB. It came out earlier tonight that Roger Goodell has ordered Vick not to attend Falcons training camp at this time. I think this will parlay into Goodell either suspending Vick or asking him to take a voluntary leave of absence. Now, let me get to my rant on this subject. I am listening to the radio the other day, and low and behold, Hollywood Joe Horn is on spouting off on how people are already convicting Vick and presuming him to be guilty. First off Joe, sports talk radio and the American public are simply discussing what the NFL should do in light of this indictment and the allegations. No one is condemning him for anything yet. Trust me. I listen to sports talk radio every minute of everyday that I am in my vehicle. Secondly, walk outside your locker room and tell this to the freaks from PETA picketing outside the Falcons' facility. It's this type of radical behavior that makes it bad for rational people. Lastly, whether you want to believe it or not Joe, Vick had something to do with it. I am not implying that he was personally harming these dogs to the extent that is being reported. However, this was taking place on HIS property. That I am not implying. Well, I almost made it through a whole report without mentioning anything about LSU. That is not possible. In closing I want to comment about Les Miles' appearance on the inagural College Football Live show which airs weekdays on ESPN at 2:30 central time. Naturally, Miles was asked about his comments he made about USC and the Pac 10 a few weeks back. I was very glad to see that he did not back off his comments in anyway. While he did say he and LSU had tremendous respect for USC, he reiterated his point that the SEC is tougher top to bottom and drove it home by saying that the SEC having a conference championship game only makes it that much tougher to win a national championship. Way to geaux Les!!! Before I go, I wanted to remind all Geaux Show fans that we will be airing a fantasy football preview show sometime within the next week. This will soon be followed by a LSU/College Football show sometime before the season starts. Also, do not forget to keep sending in those emails. We have gotten some excellent fan response over the last couple of weeks. I urge everyone to voice their opinions to the Geaux Show inbox, geauxshow@gmail.com. Mon, 23 July 2007 By: Casey GisclairWell, the NBA offseason is for the most part finished, and it's time to label a few winners and losers. Top-tier names like Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen did change addresses, but the biggest fish (Billups, Bryant, Garnett) did not leave their tank...yet. The draft also produced a few real big winners and also a huge loser, but for 25-26 of the other teams, we will have to wait until the middle of the season to accurately rate whether the rookie was worth the risk. So, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the 1st annual Gisclair Awards for NBA Offseason Efficiency: 1. Best Overall Offseason: Nominees: Rockets, Magic, Celtics, Blazers, Sonics Winner: Rockets: I am sorry if I am a homer, but the Rockets moved from distant 5th in the West to an "almost there" 4th by getting 2 solid PGs and a serviceable big-man, while only giving up Juwan Howard. 2. Biggest Risk-takers Nominees: Timberwolves, Lakers, Celtics, Magic Winner: Celtics: Celtics general manager Danny Ainge sure better hope his team can win instantly, because acquiring aging Ray Allen's fat contract can put the Celtics in serious financial problems for years to come. 3. Best Under the radar move: Nominees: Grizzlies (Darko) Rockets (Francis) Lakers (Fisher) Winner: Lakers: All three teams listed above will get huge contributions from the above players, but Fisher is the total professional on and off the court, and his leadership and 3-point presense makes both the Lakers and Kobe Bryant better. 4. Most money for a player people don't appreciate: Winner: Gerald Wallace: People don't understand that Wallace has finally matched his potential, averaging 18 points and 7 boards last season. Considering Bobcats president Michael Jordan is only spending half of what the Magic spent to get Rashard Lewis, it is a total steal. 5. High Risk, Small Reward Award: Winner: Sacramento Kings signing C/PF Mikki Moore to an 18 million dollar deal: I like Moore as much as the next guy, but 6 million a season for someone who is 32, and averages 5 points per game for his career is a bit much. And finally: Biggest Loser: Nominees: Hawks, Timberwolves, Suns, Lakers Each team has lost in it's own right. The Hawks are a strong loser, because they had a chance to get Amare Stoudamire in a trade, but their owner vetoed it. The Hawks are always a strong nominee for this award every offseason, but they do not win it this year, because I believe Acie Law and Al Horford will both be solid, NBA ready rookies. The Lakers are losers, because they had chances to get Ron Artest, Jermaine O'Neal, Kevin Garnett and the list goes on-and-on, but refuse to do so, because of Andrew Bynum: the same Andrew Bynum who is only averaging 7 points a game. Sure, the Lakers want him to blossum, but every, single big-man that has dominated in this league came into the league dominating. The Timberwolves lose, because they had a real chance this offseason to start fresh and build toward the future, but all they seemed to do so far is trade Mike James for a 30-something washed up PF in Juwan Howard. How the Timberwolves can honestly think they can stand-pat with their roster amazes me. But, the winner: Suns: The Suns had and still probably have an opportunity to get the best PF the game has ever seen, and that includes Tim Duncan, but they chose to stick with their initial roster, which will never be good enough to defeat the Spurs. Kevin Garnett may still be out there to be had for the Suns, but until a deal is made, the Suns are just becoming an old team that hinges on the continued good health of Amare. Fri, 29 June 2007 ![]() As foreseen by Carey Montz and friends:
While the true die-hard college football fan is ready for the start of another football as soon as the final whistle sounds, the average college football enthusiast typically starts to fiend about this time of the summer. Both the true die-hard and average fan wish college football were played year round, but most are intelligent enough to realize that football needs a break from time to time as well. That being said, these same people really start to get antsy and begins correlating his fall schedule in order to prepare for the start of football season, more importantly the tailgating season. This antsiness (made up word) primarily coincides with the beginning of summer. We all find ways to cope with the football off-season. There are the NBA guys, us NASCAR guys, and the baseball purist (You know...those guys who don't mind watching a mid summer's three game set between the Royals and Devil Rays). However, once summer is in full swing, we all become the little kid in the back of his parent's suburban on a long vacation trip. That little kid can remain quiet and find ways to occupy himself for much of the travel time, but once he can see the light at the end of the tunnel, he forgets about all things that kept him occupied for the other 4 hours and 23 minutes. So, what do we do to occupy ourselves for the other 45 minutes? The married men are always given chores to do, but nothing that can truly divert our attention away from the soon to be football season. The single guy, other than the occasional one night fling, doesn't have the luxury, or curse depending on how you look at, of having that special someone giving him chores to occupy his time. Regardless, all men must find ways to get ourselves through what are the dog days of summer. So, after this long intro into what I feel will be a very productive meeting, the Geaux Show in partnership with Team KATT Tailgating has compiled a list of 10 things that are essential for your football tailgate. Thanks to us, we have filled your two months of waiting by providing a list of must haves which are guaranteed to make your tailgate spectacular. Ensuring that all items on this list are in their upright and locked positions will make these next two months fly by. Enjoy!!! 10.) Necessary Transportation - The rest of this list is basically irrelevant if your tailgate doesn't have the necessary logistics. Chances are someone in your group either has a truck or an SUV. If no one in your circle has either of these, stop reading this article. Or, go out and buy yourself a truck, then continue reading. Ideally, having two or more utility vehicles will do, but in reality, if you have at least one utility ride to handle the big stuff, you should be alright. 9.) Arrive Early - Tailgating is almost a national pastime in some parts of the country during the fall. The lackadaisical tailgater may think its no big deal to arrive at his tailgate around lunch time. However, this simply does not apply to those truly serious about being a successful tailgater. You must always plan out with your friends what is the best time to arrive for tailgating. There are certain criteria to consider as well. Always consider the opponent. If it is a big time SEC game, chances are people are going to arrive early. If it is opening weekend, it doesn't matter who the opponent is, people have waited since November to tailgate once again, thus arriving early is key. If it is midseason, and LSU is playing Middle Tennessee, arriving about an hour or so later than usual is sufficient. 8.) A Good Location - It is important to every tailgate to find a good location where much fun can be had. You don't want to pick the wrong spot and be stuck tailgating next to a bunch of squares. Also, you gotta think about the intangibles. First, you want to set up a tailgate somewhere so that your vehicle will remain in the same zip code. Next, always think about where your closest restrooms are located. Lastly, you must pick out a spot where there is lots of action. Having others around only makes tailgating that much more fun. 7.) Furniture and Appliances (chairs, tables, ice chests, radio, tv, etc) - When you get to your tailgate spot, you gotta have a place to sit. Investing in chairs and such is a smart move. Having tables to put food on is always a good thing. Of course, you are going to need ice chests to keep the beer good and cold. Lastly, you must have some form of medium. It can get old just sitting around talking to your friends about the same stuff over and over. Also, you must think about what you will use to power said medium. An inverter that can plug into a vehicle is good. And you can always invest in a small generator. Remember, you must have something for the generator to keep the noise and fumes down to a minimum. 6.) EZ-UP Tents - This is essential to making any tailgate a success. And not any old tent will do. You have to go with the EZ-UP Tents. Too many times over the years my friends and I have watched and laughed in amazement at people who show up to tailgate with either a screened in camping style tent or one of those tents that are in hundreds of pieces. The EZ-UP is the only way to go. If you don't already have one, or if your tent resembles a jigsaw puzzle, do yourself a favor and spend a few extra dollars on the aforementioned EZ-UP Tent. And no, the folks at EZ-UP are not paying me. 5.) JJ Clancy - Some of you might be asking yourself what is a JJ Clancy? Well, JJ can be anyone. More specifically, JJ is the one friend that no tailgate can do without. His entertainment quality is second to none. He is the one guy who is ready to drop anything, regardless of importance, at the drop of a hat if it means tailgating success. He promises he will take care of the entertainment (television, ice chest radio, direct tv, etc) but never has the proper equipment so that these amenities can be enjoyed (batter for said radio and subscription service for the direct tv). He provides outlandish ideas without thinking how much money it might cost. But from that enthusiasm, misguided as it might be, comes commitment. If you tell him to be there at 6:00am to help set up, he is there. And let's face it, it's hard to find good help these days. 4.) Good Food and Good Beer - If you are going to take all the necessary steps so far, it would not be complete without a good food menu. In our eyes, you are not serious about tailgating if you go out there with the idea that you will just grap a bite to eat from the union. That is designed for the folks who get out there at 2:00 in the afternoon and need to pass some time before heading to the stadium. That is just not good enough in our eyes. A solid food menu only makes your tailgate more special. And live on the edge a little. Don't bring your little grill every week and cook some frozen hamburgers and hot dogs. Keep the menu diverse. There are plenty of things that are easy to prepare that don't require plenty of labor. A good example of how to make your menu diverse is to base it around a central theme of your choice. It makes it more fun. #4 on the list deserves two paragraphs. Let's face it, we can compile another list of 10 reasons why beer is important at a tailgate. Others might prefer to bring mixed drinks and such, but it doesn't get any simpler than beer. Also, once you have arrived and your beer is iced down and you are ready to sit and relax, be sure to designate someone as your personal beer bitch. Finding someone gullible is the key. The beer bitch is usually gullible and doesn't arrive at the tailgate as early as the others. Also, he is the guy who comes with his beer and then asks if he can bum room in someone's ice chest. This has beer bitch written all over it. Remember it. 3.) Recreational Activities - If you are following these steps to the tee, you must bring along some type of recreational activity. If you have a good location with plenty of open room, you have to have a football. It is considered illegal in some states to tailgate without a football. Another thing to consider is holey board. When the beer starts to flow and people start to arrive, the holey board games get very intense. Also, if you tailgate at the parade grounds at LSU, and you get out there early, a pitching wedge and nine iron along with about half a dozen golf balls is a good idea. Practice your short game while waiting for the slackers to arrive. If you are sit down tailgater, cards are always a good idea. 2.) Good Friends - No doubt that a good time can be had at a tailgate with just a core group of friends. But don't be afraid to let some of your friends invite some of their friends, no matter how much they mooch off of your food and beer. As far as tailgating is concerned, we believe the more the merrier. If the mooching continues after a while, then it is okay to kick their ass, but do it politely. Then, politely tell them that if they want to join in on the fun, it is time to contribute. I got away from why I had this so high on the list. You being there with all of your closest friends celebrating one common thing is a high like no other. It's not like going to a party in college where everyone has their own separate agenda. Everyone at a tailgate is there for the same reason. It's a day long event culminating with a football game at night. 1.) Dedication - Let's be honest. Everything listed above is pretty much irrelevant if you don't have #1. If you are going to tailgate seriously, certain sacrifices will have to be made. For those of you responsible for hauling much of the equipment, you must accept the fact that your vehicle will smell like ass for the entire fall season and part of the winter. If you are going to tailgate with friends, make sure you tailgate with those friends who are as truly dedicated and psychotic as you. This may hurt other friends feelings who want to arrive a bit later. Piss on 'em. That is their problem. If they want to arrive later and go somewhere else, oh well. If they want to arrive later and join you, welcome them with open arms. Also, be smart about your dedication. Budget for your tailgate. Think about what needs to be done and start planning in the springtime. There you have it. 10 things that are essential to making any tailgate a success. Please keep in mind that we here at the Geaux Show and Team KATT are aware that there are other necessities. It was in our eyes that we felt that these were the most important. All in all, I hope this helped those out there wanting to make their tailgate a success. Now, that we have laid the groundwork, go out there and do us proud. Or, if you are lazy and want to join us on Saturdays, you can get in touch with us at geauxshow@gmail.com. Be good or be good at it!!! Thu, 28 June 2007 BY: CASEY GISCLAIR Well, we will begin today's blog with the news that Greg Oden will be the 1st pick of the NBA draft to the Blazers. Good move? Bad move? I don't know. I do think, however, it is the safe move. I think this season Oden is better, but Durant will have a better career. I was going to blog about the rest of round 1 of the draft, but geez, it is so wild and unpredictable, that I will save myself the embarassment. I will instead give 5 players I like from 11-30 and 5 I think are overrated. Hot: 1. Acie Law IV: PG Texas A&M- Law is the most proven player in this entire draft when it comes to big-time pressure moments. If I had to choose who to take the "last shot" in a game, and had this entire draft to pick from, I would go with Law. Atlanta at 11 would be silly to pass on him. 2. Morris Almond: SG Rice- Almond is not polished, he is not "pretty", and he is an unorthodox player, but the kid can score the ball from anywhere on the floor, and Rule No. 1 in the NBA is: "You can't score, you can't play." 3. Jared Dudley: SF Boston College- Dudley gets lost in the world of North Carolina's and Duke's, but the kid was still ACC Player of the Year, and that has to mean something, right? 4. Spencer Hawes: C Washington- LSU fans remember Hawes from the drubbing he gave Glen Davis in December's rout. But Hawes has passing skills far beyond normal for someone his size, as well as a soft jump-shot from 17 feet. ULTIMATE SLEEPER: 5. DJ Strawberry: SF Maryland- Strawberry had a solid senior season at Maryland, pushing him onto NBA teams' radar. Strawberry can handle NBA pressure, as he has been on the big-stage his whole life being the son of a former MLB player. Busts: 1. Josh McRoberts: PF Duke- My disdain for Duke is common-place, but McRoberts slept through his entire second season. He has no motor and no drive. He will get dominated by players in the next level. 2. Alando Tucker: SF/PF Wisconsin- Mr. Tucker made a living last season pushing around a weak Big 10 conference. Sorry, Mr. Tucker, 6'5 power forwards don't play much in the NBA. 3. Marc Gasol: C Spain- I honestly have never seen the kid play live, but watching tapes, I am not impressed. The last name "Gasol" may have NBA teams reaching in hopes that he turns out to be like his brother, but I doubt it will ever happen 4. Rodney Stuckey: SG E. Washington- The kid is a proven scorer playing against JV teams, but he scored low on workouts with people of his level, causing me to drop him a little. 5. Aaron Brooks: PG Oregon- I think Brooks can be a solid spark-plug off a bench of a contending team, but he lacks the size to be an everyday player to run a team. Oregon State completed its dominating run through the NCAA post season Sunday, completing a two game sweep against North Carolina Sunday night in Omaha at the College World Series. The Beavers used a steady combination of timely hitting and solid pitching to make quick work of the Tar Heels, outscoring UNC by a combined score of 20-7. Oregon State became the first team to repeat as national champions of college baseball in 10 years. The last team to repeat was LSU in 1997. The Beavers, like LSU, dominated its opponent in the repeat year. Sun, 24 June 2007 It's the NBA draft, ladies and gents, and this is the official Geaux Show Mock draft:1. Portland- Kevin Durant- 6'10 210 SF Texas- Okay, I know this is a "shock the world" pick, but I really feel at the end of the day, Portland will take Durant. The Blazers already have legit bigs in Zach Randolph and LaMarcus Aldridge, and they already have a franchise 2-guard in Brandon Roy, so I think the Blazers will shock the world and take Durant to play 3, creating an exciting starting five. 2. Seattle- Greg Oden- 7'0 260 C Ohio State- If the Blazers do indeed take Durant, expect the Sonics to then run to the podium to get Oden, because they are in big-time need of a big-man. 3. Atlanta- Al Horford- 6'10 245 PF Florida- The Hawks have made so many bad picks, that here's to hoping they take Horford (the best big-man in the draft, and yes, that includes Oden). Horford may not have the "up-side", but he is ready to play now, something Oden may not be. The Hawks also need a PG, so Mike Conley, Jr. is an option, but with the team picking again in the lottery, they will probably fill that need there. 4. Memphis- Mike Conley- 6'1 175 PG Ohio State- The Grizzlies want Horford badly to play alongside Pau Gasol in the paint, but if he goes, they will likely shift their attention to Conley with Damon Stoudamire coming off an injury-filled season and Chucky Atkins a free-agent on July 1. 5. Boston- Brandan Wright- 6'10 200 PF North Carolina- Rumor on the streets is Celtics head-man Danny Ainge may trade down to try to get China's Yi Jianlian, and they also may take him No. 5, but with Ainge needing badly to strike gold with this pick, look for the Celtics to land the man who may well have the most upside of anyone in the draft. 6. Milwaukee- Jeff Green- 6'9 230 SF Georgetown- The Bucks have no gigantic need except depth, so the Bucks will go after the most NBA-ready wing player in the draft to compliment Michael Redd and Bobby Simmons. 7. Minnesota- Joakim Noah- 6'11 230 PF Florida- Scouts have been raving about Noah's motor and his internal drive to be the best player he can be. With so much talk about Kevin Garnett maybe being traded, the Wolves can draft Noah to either learn from the best, or replace the best. 8. Charlotte- Julian Wright 6'8 211 SF Kansas- The Bobcats have a plethora of talented, young bigs who just can't stay healthy, as well as franchise players at the 3 and 1 positions with Adam Morrison and Raymond Felton respectively, so I expect the Bobcats to look to replace free-agent-to-be Gerald Wallace with Wright, a flashy player who can get play the up-tempo pace Michael Jordan wants to incorporate into his team. Florida's Corey Brewer and Joakim Noah will also be considered with this pick if available. 9. Chicago- Yi Jianlian- 7'0 242 PF China- The Chicago/Jianlian marriage seems like one made in heaven. The Bulls are already a solid squad, so they can gamble on a player who may not pan out, because they don't "need" a player to play now with this pick. Also, the Chinese government wants Jianlian in a big-time NBA market, so Chicago fits the bill in that respect also. 10. Sacramento- Corey Brewer- 6'8 190 SF Florida- The Kings really want a few of the players listed above, but they would also be more than happy if Brewer was on the board for them, because several scouts have told me there is a 0% chance Ron Artest will be a King next season. Check back later in the week for the remainder of the first round. Thu, 21 June 2007 1st and foremost, I would like to send my best to Texas Rangers DH Sammy Sosa. When Sosa signed with the Rangers, the baseball world laughed, and now the joke is on everyone else, as Sammy has hit his 600th dinger of his career, something many said it would take him 2-3 more years to do. But to follow up, a few days ago, I blogged about five reasons why the Giants would trade Barry Bonds. If I were running the Giants, it is something I would probably think about, but at the end of the day, I would back off and keep the soon-to-be Homer King. Here are five reasons why. 5. Barry can still play- Sure, he has lost a step or 10, but Barry still has double-digit dingers and has a bloated on-base percentage, because teams are still afraid to face him. 4. Impossible to get equal value- No team will give up much for a 40-something outfielder that is disliked by everyone outside of the Bay-area, so the Giants will never get top-notch value for Bonds. 3. Too early to sell- The National League is again wide-open, and although the Giants seem to be in horrible shape, it is a little too early to get a bunch of 19 and 20-year olds for the team's best player. 2. Because they can't- Bonds is a 10 and 5 player, meaning he will have to accept a trade to any team that offers San Fran. Bonds has said a few times in the past that he would likely veto anything offered to the Giants. 1. Egg in the Face- The Giants have put up with Bonds throughout all of this steroids scandal. They would be selling themselves short if they missed out on the only reason a bad-team is selling tickets right now. Overall odds Bonds gets traded: 15%. The odds drop to 0% if Bonds has not yet broken Aaron's record by July 31. The only way a deal gets done is if Barry is past the record, and the Giants are still way-back in the standings. The two things Barry wants for the remainder of his career is this record, and a World Series ring, so if he has a chance at both elsewhere, he may be granted his wish. Thu, 21 June 2007 ![]() The Rice Owls could be the next great dynasty in college baseball. There's only one problem. They can't seem to get past Oregon St. or North Carolina. For the second consecutive year, the Owls needed only one win to advance to the championship round of the College World Series, after starting off 2-0. Last year, the Beavers staved off elimination by defying the odds and defeating Rice twice to advance to the best of three CWS championship series. In 2007 like the little dog who follows around his friend Spike in the Looney Tunes cartoon, North Carolina felt the need to do as the Beavers did in 2006. After being absolutely manhandled by Rice earlier in the week 14-4, the Tar Heels defeated Rice 6-1 on Wednesday, then 7-4 on Thursday to advance to face Oregon State for the CWS title for the second straight year. Only this time the proud baskeball school will be hoping for a different result, hoping for the school's first ever national championship in baseball. From the Beavers perspective, they look to become the first team to repeat as national champions since your LSU Fightin' Tigers did it in 1996 and 1997. The Beavers have worn the hat of a champion all week long, having barely broken a sweat with wins against Cal State Fullerton, fellow Pac-10 foe Arizona State, and everybody's favorite team, the Ant Eaters of UC-Irvine. Oregon State appears to have the advantage going into this weekend's best of three series given the fact the Tar Heels had to come up from the loser's bracket to even sniff the weekend. There you have it. The CWS Championship Series is set. If you were hoping to get some type of great statistical analysis of the best of three game series, I am sorry to dissappoint. I am not what you would call dedicated to covering college baseball. So, if I tried to fill a page with a bunch of bologna (baloney for the spelling impaired) about pitching matchups and key hitters and such, it would be exactly that...bologna. Except take out the word bologna and insert another riskay word of your choice. Basically, I am laying it out for y'all to play it out...sorta like The Soprano's finale....but not quite.

Tue, 19 June 2007 With San Francisco Giants' general manager Brian Sabean's media declaration that no one on his team is above being traded, INCLUDING slugger Barry Bonds, I have complied a list of 10 reasons why the Giants need to part ways with their veteran slugger.5. Barry's Gigantic Contract- Barry is scheduled to make nearly 16 million this season. For someone nearing his mid-40s, the Giants need to begin to throw around the money to someone else. 4. Playing without a Glove?- Bonds is an absolute butcher in the field, and with a pitching staff that is already sub-par, the Giants can not afford to give away runs. 3. Wipe Their Hands Clean- For years now, the whole steroids angle has played out and has created an egg on the face of baseball. The yolk is more visible in San Fran more than anywhere in the country, where BALCO was founded, and where Bonds went from 200 pound base stealer to 300 pound homer king. 2. Youth Movement- Not just Bonds, but the Giants need to rid themselves of all of their "late 30-somethings". They are the most fossilized team in baseball. 1. For his own good- Barry would be best served doing what he does best: swinging the bat. Trading Bonds to an American League buyer like the Yankees or even to the Angels or A's would allow Bonds to stay clear away from ever playing the Giants, while also maximizing Barry's career. Check back tomorrow for 5 reasons why Barry should remain a Giant. Fri, 15 June 2007 Another NBA season has come to a close, and another NBA playoffs has ended. For the fourth time in nine seasons, the San Antonio Spurs have won the NBA's highest honor, making the Cleveland Cavs look like a JV squad in a 4-0 sweep. While this writer is not one of the many who believe the Spurs are "boring", I did believe the NBA playoffs were less than fulfilling. Memo to NBA mob-leader, David Stern: Rethink the NBA seeding process and watch the rating go up, up, up. All of this season's exciting matchups this season took place in the "B"estern Conference. Matchups like Dallas and Golden State; Utah and Houston; and Phoenix and San Antonio, gave the fans a treat of two well balanced teams who all play fairly exciting brands of basketball. The problem is that with the way the playoffs are seeded now, the two best teams in the NBA, the Suns and the Spurs, were pitted in round 2, causing the rest of the playoffs to go down hill from there. The easiest solution is to disregard the conferences. If I were king for a day, I would keep the standard "Top-8" from each conference theory to maintain balance between the two leagues. I would, however, seed these remaining 16 teams based on their records, doing away with the Eastern and Western Conference Championships, because the title means nothing. It is insane to assume that Cleveland, the so called "Eastern Champion" can win a trophy for their play this season, but the Suns (who would also have swept the Cavs), get a pat on the back and are told to go home. With my plan, this season's playoffs would have looked like this: (with my predictions also thrown in.) Rd 1: 1. Dallas v. 16. Orlando (Dallas in 4) 2. Phoenix v. 15. Washington (Suns in 4) 3. San Antonio v. 14. New Jersey (Spurs in 5) 4. Detroit v. 13. Golden State (Warriors in 6) 5. Houston v. 12. Los Angeles Lakers (Rockets in 6) 6. Utah v. 11. Miami (Heat in 7) 7. Cleveland v. 10. Denver (Denver in 5) 8. Chicago v. Toronto (Bulls in 6). Okay, so the 1st round is a little boring with Western powerhouses scraping the floor with Eastern bottom-feeders, but now it's time to have fun. Rd 2: 1. Dallas v. 8. Chicago (Dallas in 7) 2. Phoenix v. 10. Denver (Phoenix in 7) 3. San Antonio v. 11. Miami (Spurs in 6) 13. Golden St. v. 5. Houston (Warriors in 5) These matchups are a little more exciting, but also a little more traditional of what a 2nd round matchup should be. The second round is exactly what is says it is: the SECOND round. The two powerhouses of the NBA should not be running into each other with 2 stages of competition yet to be played. Rd 3: 1. Dallas v. 13. Golden State (Warriors in 6) 2. Phoenix v. 3. San Antonio (Spurs in 6) And finally: Rd 4: 13. Golden State v. 3. San Antonio (Spurs in 5) Now certainly, this is all subject to my opinion with these matchups, but how much fun would it have been to see a Bulls/Knicks final in the Jordan-era, or a Lakers/Kings finals in the Shaq era? Forget making people wears suits to games, Mr. Stern, just make sure the two best teams are allowed to play when all of the chips are on the table, so we don't have to ever see another finals like we just had to witness. Fri, 18 May 2007 From LSU.edu:"The LSU tiger mascot, Mike V, passed away at 2:23 a.m. on May 18. Mike V was born October 19, 1989, and has been at LSU since he was four months old. He was 17 years old at the time of his passing. During his tenure, Mike V reigned over a football national championship, five baseball national championships and a remarkable 23 track and field championships. He saw LSU sports teams win 37 Southeastern Conference titles from 1990 to 2007. Mike was brought to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine on Wednesday, May 16, for a routine exam. His veterinarian, Dr. David Baker, noticed that he was having trouble breathing the day before. During the exam, it was discovered that he had a condition called idiopathic chylothorax. This is a serious condition with a poor prognosis. Because of this condition, Mike had to have emergency surgery to remove 10 liters of fluid from around his lungs. Given his age all surgeries are risky, but without surgery it is doubtful that he would have lived another week. As a result of the anesthesia, Mike's kidneys failed. He was placed on renal dialysis, but treatment was unsuccessful. A necropsy will be performed at the School of Veterinary Medicine to determine, if possible, the cause of the chylothorax. Mike will then be cremated. Mike V was donated to LSU by Dr. Thomas and Caroline Atchison of the Animal Zoological Park in Moulton, Ala. He was introduced to LSU fans at the LSU-Alabama basketball game in February 1990, and he was moved into his home, north of Tiger Stadium, on April 30, 1990. When Mike V first came to LSU, his night house was part of the original habitat constructed in 1937. In 1981, Mike's outdoor enclosure had a $175,000 renovation, making it three times larger. The renovation added a grassy area, pool, climbing platforms, and a tiger-sized wooden scratching post. The grassy area was covered with a soft rubber material in the early 1990s. A capital fund-raising campaign kicked off in 2001 to raise funds to build a new habitat for Mike V. Construction began in November 2004 and was completed in August 2005. The new habitat incorporates natural substrates, including grass, and also includes elements of LSU's renaissance architecture and facts educating Mike's visitors on the five living subspecies of tigers. Two of LSU's Tiger mascots, Mike I and Mike III, lived 19 years, and Mike IV lived 20 years 9 months and 18 days. The average lifespan for a tiger in the wild is about 8-10 years. A tiger in captivity, like Mike V, can live 14-18 years. Plans are underway to acquire a new tiger." Mon, 30 April 2007 ![]() There wasn't too much to report on from the second day of the NFL Draft, as it was a slow day for LSU players being taken. In fact, the only other LSU player drafted over the weekend was Chase Pittman by the Cleveland Browns in the seventh round. Pittman, I guess you can say, serves as the final piece to the 2007 Cleveland Browns' draft puzzle, a puzzle some experts are touting as the best draft this year. Also, as expected, several other LSU players signed free agent rookie contracts today. Seven more players in all will be in NFL camps come July. Here is a quick rundown of the seven players who signed free agent contracts today: Justin Vincent - Atlanta; Daniel Francis - Washington; Peter Dyakowski - New Orleans; Jesse Daniels - Carolina; Chris Jackson - Buffalo; Ryan Willis - St. Louis; and Brian Johnson - Arizona The Saints used the second day to add depth to their roster at some key positions. The most noteworthy selection came when the Saints traded up in the 4th round to select running back Antonio Pittman from Ohio St. Pittman is a guy who will be competing for that third running back position with Aaron Stecker. At 5'10'' 207lbs., I see Pittman as a guy who can come in spell either Bush or McAllister and be used in certain 3rd down situations and on special teams. Overall, it was great weekend to be an LSU Tiger fan. For the first time in its history, LSU had 4 guys selected in the first round. The SEC proved its dominance once again with nearly half the first round selections used to draft SEC players. The Saints had a good weekend. They filled the void left by Joe Horn and added more depth to the cornerback position as well. Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton have pushed all the right buttons to this point, and I am not about to criticize anything they have done. Job well done overall by the Saints. Sat, 28 April 2007 ![]() The 1st day of the NFL Draft is nearing completion, and it was a great day for LSU, having four former players get drafted in the 1st round on Saturday. Not surprising to anyone, JaMarcus Russell was selected first overall by Oakland, joining Billy Cannon as the only other LSU Tiger football player to be selected first overall in the NFL Draft. Russell joins Cannon, Shaquille O'neal, Ben McDonald, and Semoine Augustus as the only five players in LSU history to be selected first overall in each of their respective sports. Joining Russell as first round selections were Laron Landry, Dwayne Bowe, Craig Davis. The only surprise in that group is Davis. Most, including myself, in my draft preview had him slotted as second round pick. That being said, I don't think it was a reach for San Diego to select him. Landry was taken by the Washington Redskins 6th overall, which off the top of my head, is the first time that has happenend in LSU's history....having two players taken in the top 10 I mean. Bowe was selected 23rd overall by Kansas City, and Davis was the 30th pick by the Chargers. Congrats to the Tigers who have been selected and good luck to the Tigers who await a phone call tomorrow. As far the Saints, the team stuck to their guns by taking who they felt was the best player available. Robert Meacham, WR, Tennessee, was taken by the Saints with the 27th pick. The additions at CB during the offseason was reason enough to go WR in the first round, especially with the loss of Joe Horn. The Saints traded their second round pick away to the Detriot Lions for an early third round pick and a fifth round pick. The difference between their second round pick and third round pick was only 8 positions, so not a bad move to pick a late round pick. Mon, 23 April 2007 ![]() It is my favorite time of spring. No, I am not talking about the Red Sox sweeping the Yankees over the weekend, although I think that is outstanding based on the fact that the Sox are my second favorite MLB team behind Houston, and the Yankees rank right up there with Notre Dame, Tulane, and pretty much every NBA team as my most hated sports teams. I am talking about the NFL Draft. With the exception of LSU spring practice and the start of Mariner's spring softball, the NFL Draft is what I look forward to the most in the month of April. You have to give it up to the NFL. Only they can sell a product such as its draft and have people, such as myself, so riveted as to what it going to happen that we literally waste an entire weekend sitting on our cans at the risk of getting blasted by our wives for not helping around the house. While I look forward to NFL Draft weekend every year, more importantly, I pay special attention as to where LSU players entered in the draft will end up. If that is not enough reason to sit on my can and waste away an entire weekend, there is the prospect that JaMarcus Russell will be the #1 overall selection on Saturday. Wait, there's more. Laron Landry is slated to go in the top 10, and Dwayne Bowe could be a mid-first rounder. So, in order to hopefully enlighten all of you Geaux Show fans as to what is going to happen in this year's NFL Draft as it pertains to LSU, I give you my LSU NFL Draft Preview. JAMARCUS RUSSELL: Unless you are Amish, you know that Russell has been talked about as being the first player taken by the Oakland Raiders pretty much since he lit Brady Quinn and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish up for 332 yards and 3 total TD'S in the Sugar Bowl back on January 3rd. I have stated on more than one occassion that I do not want this to happen. I hate the Raiders. I hate the way Al Davis runs the organization. I don't want Russell to go there and immediately get thrown to the wolves because that is exactly what is going to happen. Who's gonna start ahead of him? Josh Flippin' Booty? Andrew Walter? He got beat out at the begining of the season by Aaron Brooks. Nevertheless, Russell even being considered as a possible #1 overall selection is fantastic. It is fantastic for he and his family, LSU fans across the board, and for the university. What do I think is going to happen? Well, unless the Raaaaaiiiddeeeerss make a play for a QB between now and Saturday, they will take Russell. Speculation is that Al Davis is salivating more and more over Calvin Johnson. But having all of those receivers does you no good if you only have Booty and/or Walter throwing them the ball. Prediction: This is wishful thinking, but what the hell. The Raiders strike a deal with the Lions for Josh McCown, select Calvin Johnson #1, and the Browns swap places with the Lions and select Jamarcus Russell. LARON LANDRY: Behind Gaines Adams, DE from Clemson, Landry is the most sought after defensive player in this year's draft. Landry started every game in his career at LSU and could have been a first round selection in last year's NFL Draft. He was decribed by one college football publication at the beginning of the 2006 college football season as an NFL player in a college uniform. There are two places where Landry is likely to go: Minnesota or Atlanta, who pick 7th and 8th respectively. The only way Minnesota doesn't take Landry is if either Adrian Peterson falls to the Vikings at #7, or if they trade up to get Peterson. Prediction: I think Adrian Peterson could fall to Minnesota in the seventh slot. The only other team that would take Peterson ahead of Minnesota would be Cleveland. But based on my prediction about JaMarcus, that would not fly. Therefore, I think the Falcons select Landry with the 8th overall pick. DWAYNE BOWE: Bowe is another LSU Tiger whose stock has risen as a result of NFL Pro Day workouts. Bowe does not have the numbers that some of the other top receivers in the draft have, but his physical attributes and his peformance at the Senior Bowl practices and continuing at LSU's pro day's have him slotted to go somewhere in the middle of the first round up from a late first round pick as originally thought. Prediction: Bowe's fate depends on how some of the teams picking in the mid first round who need a WR rate him. Bowe is sort of clumped together with Robert Meacham from Tennessee, and, for some reason, Ted Ginn Jr. It's a toss-up as to who gets drafted first out of these three. But, for purposes of this report, I like Bowe to end up in Tennessee in a Titans uniform come Saturday. CRAIG DAVIS: I stated above that Bowe didn't have the types of numbers that some of the other top WR's had. Craig Davis is one reason why. Davis, or as I always referred to him, Mr. Conistent, does all the little things that doesn't show up on stat sheets. For example, Davis isn't going to be the guy whose 40 time jumps out at you. But Davis only helped himself more in the draft when he started handling returns for LSU midway through the 2006 season. His ability to successfully handle returns for LSU only solidfies Davis as 1st day draft selection. Prediction: Craig Davis will likely be taken somewhere in the second round, probably early to mid second round to be exact. Perfect scenario would be Davis falling to the Saints at pick 58, but that is not likely to happen. The Dolphins at pick 40 is a possibility, or the Falcons could nab their second LSU player with pick 39 or 44. OTHER TIGERS OF INTEREST: I believe Davis will round out the LSU players who will be taken on the first day. The only other real possibility is Chase Pittman. Pittman has good size and speed and could go in the third round. Jesse Daniels endured an injury plagued last two seasons at LSU, but he could still be a second day pick somwhere in the 5th or 6th round. Justin Vincent, despite all his hardships since his freshman season, could be another Tiger taken late on the second day. Vincent still has great versatility. He can run the ball, catch the ball, and is great at picking up blitzes. If he ever regains his work ethic, he could be a very servicable third down back in the NFL. Daniel Francis, Chris Jackson, Peter Dyakowski, and Brian Johnson will all most certainly earn themselves a free agent rookie contract. Of those 4, the only two I see possibly being selected late are Daniel Francis and Brian Johnson.

Mon, 23 April 2007 This is a difficult story for me to post. The picture on the right is of Zhamal Thomas, one of the 3 LSU players who was arrested last week and subsequently dismissed from the team last Thursday. I say it is difficult because Zhamal was a guy I knew in high school in New Iberia. He was an extremely strong guy in high school, leading the schools' weightlifting team as a sophmore. I was excited during the '06 signing day to hear his name called, grateful that someone made it to the big time from NISH's dismal football team. Ever since I started this site, I hoped that one day I'd be able to post a pic of him taking down some defensive player during a game, just like he did so many times at NISH. As it stands, I hope he and the other former Tigers can clean up their act and land on their feet somewhere. Mon, 23 April 2007 I was hoping this wouldn't happen. Pokey's Lawyers now claim that LSU forced her to resign and are seeking $900,000 (the last 2 years of her contract plus damages) in compensation. Lawyers for LSU deny the claim, saying that the university learned of allegations of sexual relationships between Chatman and former players who were then on the team and handled it properly and that the university will honor “the terms of the resignation, but no more." Looks like we'll have a court case to keep us occupied this summer. Mon, 23 April 2007 The LSU Mens baseball team had another successful SEC weekend, defeating Mississippi State 2-1 in the series. After a dismal 3-12 loss on friday, The Tigers' bullpen led the charge, as Junior Jared Bradford allowed only to one run on six hits with five strikeouts against the SEC-leading MSU batters in his 3-1 win on Sunday. After starting league play 1-6, the Tigers have won 3-of-4 SEC series and are now 8-9-1, with a good opportunity to break .500 this coming weekend at home against Tennessee.Coach Paul Mainieri- “There’s no doubt that the most valuable player on our team is Jared Bradford. What a superb effort he gave us today after pitching the ninth inning yesterday. He is a great competitor with a tremendous amount of courage. I’m so proud of what he accomplished this weekend. I’m also very proud of our entire team. The players never got discouraged after the first game. Wed, 28 March 2007 Saints fans must feel like Katrina put us in a parallel universe. First the Saints make a miraculous run to the NFC Title game. Now negotiations between the Saints and the State are done and Benson uttered words I never thought we'd hear. Both sides agreed Monday to toss out contract clauses that would have allowed the team to leave in 2010. Afterwards, a representative for Benson said he is "committed over the next four yearsto get a long-term deal done here and to stay here forever." Somebody pinch me. I think I'm dreaming... Wed, 28 March 2007 With LSU's 23-point shellacking of UConn and Tennessee's 36-point blowout of Ole Miss, the 2007 Women's Final Four has the makings of a scene all too familiar to both programs. Setup on opposite sides of the bracket, the Vols and Tigers could again meet this season in a high-stakes game, this time for the National Championship. The Tigers are looking very good down the stretch, and Bob Starkey has done a fantastic job as Interim coach keeping the focus on-not off-the court. Though he has publicly said he doesn't want the job, LSU would be making a mistake if they don't try to make this loyal Tiger the head coach. Starkey started at LSU as an Asst. basketball coach with Dale Brown in the 90's and deserves the opportunity to take the lead. Thu, 22 March 2007 Glen Davis has decided it's time to move on. At a press conference on Wednesday he announced that he has signed with an agent and will enter this years draft, officially ending his LSU career. I think he shoulda stayed another year, but at least he is going to finish out his semester and help the university with NCAA "good standing" requirements. Good luck in the NBA, Big Baby! "Baton Rouge is not just a place that I went to school and played basketball. It is where I was born and raised. It is where my family is and it will always be in my heart. I will forever be a Tiger. I will always think fondly of my years here. I plan on finishing this school semester. Being at LSU has molded me and changed me into the man that I am today. I believe if I went somewhere else, I would not be the man I am today. With all the adversity I have been through, I feel things happen to you for a reason. I want to give credit to everybody who has molded me into the person I am today. Particularly, coach Brady and the coaching staff who have helped me along the way. Wed, 14 March 2007 From LSUSports.net"Glen Davis and I met yesterday (Monday) for about an hour and a half. We are going to meet again next Tuesday (March 20) and probably set up a press conference next Wednesday (March 21) at some point that will be announced by the sports information department. Glen is gathering some information. I've called the NBA. I've called some NBA scouts. Glen's also, I think, talking to some people who may or may not represent him which is legal for him to do. He's just trying to get a grip on where he is in the draft and what he's comfortable with. Next Wednesday at some point we're going to sit down and have a press conference. He'll announce his intentions and what his plans are. "My role in this as it has been for other players that have been here is to gather information for him, present him the facts and be supportive of him in whatever decision he makes." Sun, 3 December 2006 The LSU community got what they wanted on Sunday night: A trip to BCS bowl game. However, it is not the game Tiger fans had anticpated going to. For the past week, LSU AD Skip Bertman and head coach Les Miles have campaigned for LSU getting a shot to play in the Rose Bowl. After UCLA's stunning victory over USC on Saturday, and Florida's win against Arkansas in the SEC Championship Game, LSU will have to wait until another time for the chance to play in the "Grandaddy of them all." LSU is set to face off against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, LSU's third appearance in the game since 2001. The game will be played January 3 at 7:00 pm. The Tigers finished the season strong, winning six in a row en route to a 10-2 record. The Irish boast the same record, but its two losses have been by a combined 46 points. The announcement that Florida jumped Michigan and will play Ohio State for the national championship is a bit unexpected. Early reports indicated that the Gators would have to win the game by a very wide margin to have a chance to jump to #2 in the BCS. But Florida's strength of schedule, and the rematch factor played into the Gators' favor. Personally, I am a bit dissappointed that we will not get the chance to play in the Rose Bowl against USC. However, I am extemely happy that a one loss team from the SEC will get a chance to play for the national title. Michigan is a great football team. Florida went through the toughest conference, played the toughest schedule, and will play the Buckeyes every bit as tough as Michigan did in their annual matchup. With San Francisco Giants' general manager Brian Sabean's media declaration that no one on his team is above being traded, INCLUDING slugger Barry Bonds, I have complied a list of 10 reasons why the Giants need to part ways with their veteran slugger.
Many long time Geaux Show listeners will remember Casey Gisclair was our host for the first year until he got a real job at the sports desk for
Another NBA season has come to a close, and another NBA playoffs has ended.
Sad news on this Memorial Day. Marquise Hill, former Tiger DE and current NFL Patriot, died in a jet ski accident yesterday on Lake Ponchartrain. Marquise and his female companion, who was rescued near the site of the accident, were not wearing life vests. His body was recovered a quarter-mile away from the scene, but has not been positively identified by the family yet.

We are a mere 24 hours away from the greatest spring weekend in football....The NFL Draft. Be sure to visit
This is a difficult story for me to post.
I was hoping this wouldn't happen.
The LSU Mens baseball team had another successful SEC weekend, defeating Mississippi State 2-1 in the series. After a dismal 3-12 loss on friday, The Tigers' bullpen led the charge, as Junior Jared Bradford allowed only to one run on six hits with five strikeouts against the SEC-leading MSU batters in his 3-1 win on Sunday. After starting league play 1-6, the Tigers have won 3-of-4 SEC series and are now 8-9-1, with a good opportunity to break .500 this coming weekend at home against Tennessee.
Saints fans must feel like Katrina put us in a parallel universe. First the Saints make a miraculous run to the NFC Title game. Now negotiations between the Saints and the State are done and Benson uttered words I never thought we'd hear. Both sides agreed Monday to toss out contract clauses that would have allowed the team to leave in 2010. Afterwards, a representative for Benson said he is "committed over the next four years
With LSU's 23-point shellacking of UConn and Tennessee's 36-point blowout of Ole Miss, the 2007 Women's Final Four has the makings of a scene all too familiar to both programs.
The LSU Spring Game is Saturday (Tix free in advance, $5 at the door) and this year they are introducing a new format to the game that I hope does well.Former LSU standouts Joseph Addai and Anthony McFarland, members of the Indianapolis Colts Super Bowl Championship team this year, will serve as guest coaches for one team, while Kevin Faulk and Jarvis Green, both 3-time Super Bowl Championships, will serve on the coaching staff for the other team. It's nice to see the alums come back to campus and help bring out the fans.
Talks for keeping the Saints in LA past 2010 have offically begun, though both sides have decided to keep the matter out of the paper until terms are finalized, unlike the mudslinging that has gone on in the past. Both sides have until March 31st to reach an agreement.
The Paul Mainieri era got off to a rough but still impressive start losing 2 of 3 to USC to open SEC play last weekend. Though Pitching was good, and Waguespack made some amazing diving catches, Hitting was lackluster and continues to be the Tigers main problem. The series with UK starts at 7 p.m. tonight and continues tomorrow after the Super Tiger Bowl.
Glen Davis has decided it's time to move on.
What? You honestly believed the New Box would be finished on schedual? Citing a long list of state facilities projects in the aftermath of hurricanes
Katrina and Rita, plus the addition of 18 new suites to the design of
the ballpark as the reason for the delay, Herb Vincent, LSU senior associate athletic director for external
affairs, said it should be ready for practice in fall 2008 and the first pitch of the 2009 season.

Yesterday the Saints signed free agent Kevin Kaesviharn to a four-year contract worth $10 million, a deal that includes a $3.25 million signing bonus. Kaesviharn had a league leading six interceptions and four sacks as a Safety for CIN last season and was one of the highest rated free agents this off season.
The dream stays alive! In a tight over-time game that lasted into the wee hours of this morning, LSU pulled a huge upset against the #22 ranked Vols winning 76-67 . In a bloody, fast paced game, LSU was dogged all night by the Vols full-court press, committing 4 turnovers in the first four minutes, 23 for the game. The game was tied at 64 with less than a minute to go. Temple ran down the court and made a layup, but a HORRIBLE call sent Tenn. to the line where JaJuan Smith missed both shots to send the game to OT. LSU will next face Ole Miss in the last game of the night, scheduled tip 8:45PM
It didn't take long. ESPN reports the Falcons have agreed to sign Joe Horn, who the Saints released last week. It should be made official at a press conference tonight. Adding Horn to the lineup will give Vick a serious deep target and should fit well into Petrino's new system.
The Saints added to the defense today by picking up former Bengals Linebacker Brian Simmons, agreeing to a 3-year deal (terms yet to be disclosed). Simmons, who played only 11 games last year due to neck strain, was released from Cincinnati, citing salary cap issues. Simmons has started at every position in a 4-3 front at various times during his career and despite his short season still managed to make 78 tackles (41 solo) and two interceptions. If healthy, he should make a great addition to the team
Seems every off-season, SEC football players have a way of getting into trouble. This year is no exception. The 1st victim is SC QB Stephen Garcia, who was arrested twice in recent weeks for damaging a professor's
car with a key and with drunkenness and failing to stop for a police officer. SC has suspended him for the semester and he will not play in their spring game.
