Tue, 24 July 2007 From LSUSports.net:LSU running back Alley Broussard has decided to leave the Tiger football team, he announced on Tuesday. Broussard, a senior from Lafayette, said he will remain in school at LSU, where he is scheduled to graduate in December. “My heart was no longer in it, Broussard said. “I’m scheduled to graduate in December so I want to use the fall semester to dedicate my time towards getting my degree. “I enjoyed my four years as part of the LSU football team and I wish my teammates success in 2007. LSU coach Les Miles thanked Broussard for his service to the Tiger football team. “We understand Alley’s decision and we’ll support him as he continues to pursue his college degree. We wish him success in his future endeavors and thank him for the time that he spent with our program. In four years with the Tigers, Broussard played in 35 games, starting eight times. Mon, 23 July 2007 ![]() by: Carey Montz Okay, so let me get all of you up to speed in case your tivo no longer works. Bud Selig apparantly refuses to be anywhere near the vacinity of Barry Bonds when he breaks Hank Aaron's home run record. An NBA official, Tim Donaghy, is under an FBI investigation for allegedly betting on basketball games, some of which he may have refereed. And lastly, Michael Vick has been federally indicted on charges for illegal dog fighting that had been taking place at his property in Virginia. Now, the case of Bud Selig pales in comparison to that of Tim Donaghy and Michael Vick, but is still worthy of discussion. Before we go any further, allow me to state for the record, that I am NOT a Barry Bonds fan - steroids or no steroids. However, there lies a bit of hypocricy on the part of Bud Selig should he choose not to attend any games where it might be possible that Bonds breaks the record. Also, let it be noted that at this time, Selig has no plans to attend any of the Giants next seven games, all of which are at home. Which means one of two things: Either he hates San Francisco, or he hates Barry Bonds. Now, back to the hypocrisy. As much as Selig would like the American public to believe he was ambivalent to the use of steroids in the 1990's, he fails to drive his point home. The facts are this: Baseball was in a downward spiral after the strike. Soon after, home runs were being hit like nobody's business. And since Congress intervened a little over two years ago pretty much forcing baseball to institute some type of steroid policy, home runs have fallen off each of the past two seasons. Did Bud Selig and the rest of Major League Baseball turn a blind eye towards what was going on? I think it is fair to say so, which is where Selig's hyprocrisy lies. Do yourself a favor Bud. Attend the Giants games....please. We already know you are incompetent. But please prove to us that you are not a complete jackass. We know Hank Aaron is your good friend. And since he will not be attending, I guess you won't either. Hey Bud, you are not eight years old anymore. You are the commissioner of baseball....sort of. Worst case scenario is you attend the games for the good of baseball. Then, should information come out that Bonds' head is swollen from steroids and not from his tremendous ego, tell us you attended for the good of baseball. We'll understand. Scouts honor. Weblos!!! Salute!!!! This next segment should be fun. I get to justifiably bang on the NBA. This story is too good not to talk about. Point shaving, fixed games, the mafia....all compelling stuff. I have this image in my head of Paulie Walnuts and Chrissy meeting with Tim Donaghy on the docks somewhere in Jersey talking about what games would be best to fix. I guess I am not taking this story to seriously because any true die hard sports fan knows that the opposing team always has the referee in their back pocket. Surely, I kid about that, but it's true in a sense. The refereeing in an NBA game has been a joke for a long time. Case in point: LeBron rarely got to the foul line in the Eastern Conference Finals while in Detroit. When the games switched to Cleveland, he shot about 400 free throws. But to be a little serious on this subject. The NBA has to hold their collective breath and hope that this is an isolated incident. They have to hope that Donaghy got way into deep with a bookie and was then forced to do something to save face before he was swimming with the fishies with Big Pussy. What we don't know yet is if this is only the tip of the iceberg? Are there others involved? Who knows? If there are others involved, Donaghy would be faced with an even tougher decision. Would he turn his back on his profession, or would he turn his back on the mob? Lastly, let's take a look at the Micael Vick situation. I bet Marcus Vick feels pretty good about himself right about now. Michael Vick being indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of illegal dog fighthing caps off a very bad run by the overrated QB. It came out earlier tonight that Roger Goodell has ordered Vick not to attend Falcons training camp at this time. I think this will parlay into Goodell either suspending Vick or asking him to take a voluntary leave of absence. Now, let me get to my rant on this subject. I am listening to the radio the other day, and low and behold, Hollywood Joe Horn is on spouting off on how people are already convicting Vick and presuming him to be guilty. First off Joe, sports talk radio and the American public are simply discussing what the NFL should do in light of this indictment and the allegations. No one is condemning him for anything yet. Trust me. I listen to sports talk radio every minute of everyday that I am in my vehicle. Secondly, walk outside your locker room and tell this to the freaks from PETA picketing outside the Falcons' facility. It's this type of radical behavior that makes it bad for rational people. Lastly, whether you want to believe it or not Joe, Vick had something to do with it. I am not implying that he was personally harming these dogs to the extent that is being reported. However, this was taking place on HIS property. That I am not implying. Well, I almost made it through a whole report without mentioning anything about LSU. That is not possible. In closing I want to comment about Les Miles' appearance on the inagural College Football Live show which airs weekdays on ESPN at 2:30 central time. Naturally, Miles was asked about his comments he made about USC and the Pac 10 a few weeks back. I was very glad to see that he did not back off his comments in anyway. While he did say he and LSU had tremendous respect for USC, he reiterated his point that the SEC is tougher top to bottom and drove it home by saying that the SEC having a conference championship game only makes it that much tougher to win a national championship. Way to geaux Les!!! Before I go, I wanted to remind all Geaux Show fans that we will be airing a fantasy football preview show sometime within the next week. This will soon be followed by a LSU/College Football show sometime before the season starts. Also, do not forget to keep sending in those emails. We have gotten some excellent fan response over the last couple of weeks. I urge everyone to voice their opinions to the Geaux Show inbox, geauxshow@gmail.com. Mon, 23 July 2007 By: Casey GisclairWell, the NBA offseason is for the most part finished, and it's time to label a few winners and losers. Top-tier names like Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen did change addresses, but the biggest fish (Billups, Bryant, Garnett) did not leave their tank...yet. The draft also produced a few real big winners and also a huge loser, but for 25-26 of the other teams, we will have to wait until the middle of the season to accurately rate whether the rookie was worth the risk. So, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the 1st annual Gisclair Awards for NBA Offseason Efficiency: 1. Best Overall Offseason: Nominees: Rockets, Magic, Celtics, Blazers, Sonics Winner: Rockets: I am sorry if I am a homer, but the Rockets moved from distant 5th in the West to an "almost there" 4th by getting 2 solid PGs and a serviceable big-man, while only giving up Juwan Howard. 2. Biggest Risk-takers Nominees: Timberwolves, Lakers, Celtics, Magic Winner: Celtics: Celtics general manager Danny Ainge sure better hope his team can win instantly, because acquiring aging Ray Allen's fat contract can put the Celtics in serious financial problems for years to come. 3. Best Under the radar move: Nominees: Grizzlies (Darko) Rockets (Francis) Lakers (Fisher) Winner: Lakers: All three teams listed above will get huge contributions from the above players, but Fisher is the total professional on and off the court, and his leadership and 3-point presense makes both the Lakers and Kobe Bryant better. 4. Most money for a player people don't appreciate: Winner: Gerald Wallace: People don't understand that Wallace has finally matched his potential, averaging 18 points and 7 boards last season. Considering Bobcats president Michael Jordan is only spending half of what the Magic spent to get Rashard Lewis, it is a total steal. 5. High Risk, Small Reward Award: Winner: Sacramento Kings signing C/PF Mikki Moore to an 18 million dollar deal: I like Moore as much as the next guy, but 6 million a season for someone who is 32, and averages 5 points per game for his career is a bit much. And finally: Biggest Loser: Nominees: Hawks, Timberwolves, Suns, Lakers Each team has lost in it's own right. The Hawks are a strong loser, because they had a chance to get Amare Stoudamire in a trade, but their owner vetoed it. The Hawks are always a strong nominee for this award every offseason, but they do not win it this year, because I believe Acie Law and Al Horford will both be solid, NBA ready rookies. The Lakers are losers, because they had chances to get Ron Artest, Jermaine O'Neal, Kevin Garnett and the list goes on-and-on, but refuse to do so, because of Andrew Bynum: the same Andrew Bynum who is only averaging 7 points a game. Sure, the Lakers want him to blossum, but every, single big-man that has dominated in this league came into the league dominating. The Timberwolves lose, because they had a real chance this offseason to start fresh and build toward the future, but all they seemed to do so far is trade Mike James for a 30-something washed up PF in Juwan Howard. How the Timberwolves can honestly think they can stand-pat with their roster amazes me. But, the winner: Suns: The Suns had and still probably have an opportunity to get the best PF the game has ever seen, and that includes Tim Duncan, but they chose to stick with their initial roster, which will never be good enough to defeat the Spurs. Kevin Garnett may still be out there to be had for the Suns, but until a deal is made, the Suns are just becoming an old team that hinges on the continued good health of Amare.
